Ideas for next year: American & British Lit

2022.01.20 01:22 _Schadenfreudian Ideas for next year: American & British Lit

Hey all!!

Thank you guys so much for your comments and suggestions with regards to my writing troubles. Now...our grading period is ending this week and I've been wondering, as a second, and soon to be third year teacher, how can I better structure my 11th & 12th grade courses. They're American and British lit, respectively.
Currently, my department teaches American & Brit. lit chronologically. I've been toying around with ideas of themes (Rugged American Individualism, American Sci-Fi, UK Mythologies, etc.) or even regional (Southern Gothic, Irish folk, etc.). What are some pros & Cons of Chronological vs. Thematic curriculum in either area? Any suggestions?

Please and thank you!!

2022.01.20 01:22 cahooutz Ruined my friendship by exposing my crush- Am I a bad person?!

I (32f) am married with kids. I have an open relationship. About 1.5 years ago the company I work for hired an outside tech group, which is how I met ITguy. (33m) I immediately developed a huge crush on this guy, but let it slide because he is in a long term relationship. We connected while at my work place during his 1-2 visits a month. Everyone I work with started mocking and teasing us, mimicking my voice and saying things like "Oh, ITguy, I just love it when you talk. I love you!" We both just shrugged it off. We did go out of our way to spend as much of his time there together as possible, including talking for hours in the parking lot and connecting on social media to frequently chat. (We live about 2.5hrs apart.) About 3 months ago, he got a promotion, which means he no longer comes to my workplace. My coworkers are upset because they don't like the new IT guy, and keep asking when "my guy" is coming back. I messaged "my guy" and told him people were asking for him. He asked why they asked me, and I said "well, they know I like you, so they just assume I know everything you're doing." He totally froze and said he was shocked that I liked him. I admitted I thought he knew, due to all the teasing we had been subjected to. Now, hes gone silent. The chats we had are cold. When I need tech support on the phone, it's now a different person (ITguy would always make sure to take my calls.) It's a total ice out. I am so stressed out. We had an amazing friendship going. When we met it was like every piece just fell together and we connected amazingly. Did I seriously ruin a friendship by telling him I had a crush on him?! I can't see how to fix it! (Or if I even should!)

2022.01.20 01:22 replayjpn How does Reddit get away with Cloaking on Mobile?

(Post was removed from the SEO sub reddit so I'm posting it here)
** This is my personal opinion that it looks like Cloaking to me. With everything I do in SEO I try to be as "follow the guidelines" as possible.
From long ago one thing that we learned to stay away from was Cloaking. My understanding of Cloaking is having content that is crawl-able for the crawlers but not made for the human readers.
Mobile Experience (Chrome Safari etc)
If you type-in a URL directly going to a subreddit (Since I'm in Tokyo) Ex: Reddit.com/Tokyo
It displays:
This community is available in the app (no content)
Mobile Search Experience You search for "reddit/tokyo" You can access all the content of the sub
Desktop Experience
You go directly to a Sub on Desktop you see the sub content
Anyone care to explain how this isn't cloaking from a technical view? I wouldn't call it cloaking if all mobile traffic displayed this. If we create a site with as much user generated content wouldn't we be penalized theoretically?

2022.01.20 01:21 throw20200200020000 How to end a lie before it's too late

I have to preface this by saying it's not customary for me to lie, so this isn't a "how to stop lying" post.
It all started last year, around october, as I'm finishing up my major and have only my graduation paper left. I receive the news that one of my internships ended up invalid so I have to take on a new one in order to graduate. If I don't get it in 3 days I'll have to wait a month to start due to some bureaucratic crap and that'll in turn delay my graduation by a semester. So I go to a professor I worked with in the past, explain my situation, and he takes me in. All I gotta do is write a research article on a topic of his choosing, over the next 2 months. Topic sounds terribly dull but I'm desperate. I take it. As I'm toiling to finish my graduation paper, it becomes apparent I can't do it and the internship at the same time, so once again I go to the professor, explain my situation, and he allows me to take a break to focus on my paper, with the condition that once it's over I'll return and finish up the article.
I finish my paper, it goes great, evaluators love it. I tell my professor, he congratulates me, I tell him I'm restarting work on the article. It just so happens, however, that my paper is good to such a degree that one of the evaluators reaches out to me and asks me to restructure it to submit to a publication. I can't say no, it's an insane opportunity. Thinking it won't disrupt my article-writing very much, I decide not to tell my professor about it and just work harder. But the workload is kind of nuts. I end up having to rewrite a third of the paper and add 25% more to it. By the time it's ready, it's been over a month since I've worked on my article at all, but I've been reassuring my professor it's going well, telling him exactly where the paper would be at, had I been keeping up with my intended schedule. It started with me thinking I'd make up for it afterwards, but halfway through I'm lying to myself. I'm a month and a half behind, and I can't hide anymore that I haven't been working on the article. He's been more and more insistent to review the work I've done, as it's supposed to be nearing its end.
By this point my internship has already officially ended, been approved, and I've graduated. Odds are I'll never work in this professor's field in my life. I have also already acquired the (unpaid) internship from him, so to speak. The article is relatively inconsequential, just a lot of reading, compiling information on a menial topic, structuring it, deriving some simple conclusions, and proposing a new version of a particular technology based on the results of the research. It's dull. I actually hate it, but I was desperate before. I needed it.
If the lie is found out, all I lose is this professor's respect. Nobody else knows about this arrangement other than the two of us, but I don't want to ghost him. He's been great to me. He took me in early on in my graduation and again at the end. He's been patient, understanding, and I've repaid him with lies. The longer I wait, the worse it'll be, but I can't write the article anymore. I failed the shopping cart litmus test. I'm evil.

What do I do? How do I tell him?
